Lord Brahma taught Vasthusasthram to Visvakarma.
Viswakarmavu is believed that got birth from the third eye of Lord Mahadeva.

The Bhoja King wrote the teaching in the name Samarankanasoothradhara.

 Vasthu Purusha the myth...

According to Brihath Samhitha. Vasthu is a giant creature that covered the sky and the earth with its huge body. The Gods suddenly pressed the creature to the ground. The god which suppressed  a particular body part of the creature, the god became the lord of that part. Thus the creature is considered as the protector of the property.
The other myth is said earlier in connection with the 53 gods who suppressed the Giant Vasthupurushan to the Earth. Vasthu purushan will protect the piece of land on getting Pooja from the owner.
The man who build the house has to consider his work as Pooja and not as a work.

Who is Vasthu Purushan..?

He was a Giant Devil who lived in the age of Treta Yugam. He got birth from the sweat fallen from Sree Mahadevaa's body while he was on a fight with Andhakaaran, a Rakshasa. The whole Deva approached Sree Brahmav to get escape from the Vasthupurushan. Sri Brahmav told them to fight against him and throw him down to Earth. He fell in the Whole earth with his head Pointing North- East, Foot at the South-West, hands at South-East and North -West direction.  He began to torture the inhabitants of the Earth. And they prayed Brahmav. Sree Brahmaav appeared and directed the 53 Devas to take position in the different body parts of Vasthupurusha. Brahma and  Vasthu purusha who became weak prayes Brahma and Brahma who got kind toward him blessed Brahma and Told him that Human will make Pooja (offerings) to you in the three occasions of " Silanyasam (Placing the first stone), Kattila vayp (Errection of Door Frame) and in Grihapravesham (First entry into house). This is called as Vasthu Pooja.

  It is believed that living in a house without conducting Vasthupooja will bring bad effects to the family members. And also believed that Vasthupurushan who got blessings from Brahma and Pooja from Humans,  exist in the earth.
